Rosehill Gardens Racecourse can be found in Rosehill 2142 in Western Sydney, Australia, in the New South Wales state, just a few minutes from Sydney’s City of Parramatta. You can easily reach it by public transport. There is a station right next to the track. Today, it features a main members grandstand that has ample seating, dining facilities, and a function centre. The Australian Turf Club operates it. Rosehill hosts thoroughbred gallopers who race on grass. It is the second most important racecourse in Sydney after Randwick Racecourse. Rosehill hosts the Golden Slipper race, which is open to two-year-olds. It measures 2,048m (6,719ft) in circumference and has a straight of 408m (1,339ft).
John Bennett bought a large portion of Rosehill for the construction of a racecourse as well as a recreation area. Construction began in 1883, and was completed by April 1885. The total cost of the project was PS12,000. Bennett built a private railway line linking the racecourse with the main line at Clyde. It opened on 17/11/1888.
The Sydney Turf Club managed Rosehill Gardens Racecourse from 1943 to 2011. The Australian Turf Club was formed in 2011 when the Sydney Turf Club joined the Australian Jockey Club. Rosehill Gardens Racecourse is currently owned and operated by the Australian Turf Club.
Rosehill’s Golden Slipper Stakes Day is Australia’s largest race day, held on the first Saturday of April. It also includes the Group I races, The Galaxy and the George Ryder Stakes.
The race has grown so much in the last 20 years that it is almost as coveted by its owners as the Melbourne Cup.
It is also a major convention and event centre, with flexible and multifunctional areas, and hosts each year the Caravan and Camping Show. This takes place directly after Golden Slipper Stakes day.
